Audience Says

With a ridiculous story and an obnoxious main character who's harder to root for than the "villains," Home Sweet Home Alone is no fun for the whole family.

Home Sweet Home Alone | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) This really shouldn't be hard: find a cute kid (and they have, in the form of Jojo Rabbit's Archie Yates), and then string together a few comically implausible ways to injure another human being. Rated: 1/5 Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Home Sweet Home Alone | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Brian Lowry CNN.com Home Sweet Home Alone is a very odd duck -- a movie that basically replicates the three-decades-old "Home Alone" template, but in a way that feels slightly weird and ill-conceived. Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Home Sweet Home Alone | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Helen O'Hara Empire Magazine A defanged variation on the theme that doesn't commit hard enough to be silly fun, beyond a few chuckles. Rated: 2/5 Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Home Sweet Home Alone | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Francesca Steele iNews.co.uk Despite some nudge-nudge-wink-wink nods to the original, the sixth movie in the franchise, directed by Dan Mazer, is also the worst. Rated: 1/5 Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Home Sweet Home Alone | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Maxance Vincent InSession Film Its illogical plot comprised of three idiot protagonists, unfunny traps and jokes, and a recycled plot from the first Home Alone doesn't make it worthwhile... william s The kid sucks, the "burglars" suck, the story sucks, this movie sucks. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/24 Full Review Cudalbu R I enjoyed the traps and the easter eggs to the original movie, but unfortunately this movie doesn't live up to it's predecessors. The protagonist isn't relatable enough and the whole plot revolving around a misunderstanding with a toy and the 'villains' just being regular albeit a desperate family makes this movie also insulting to the traditional theme of kid protects house from robbers. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Hammy B This is the worst movie I've ever seen. If I could give this a 0 star rating I would. Save your eyes and children from this mess. Stick with home alone 1 and 2 ladies and gentlemen. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Stephen C The worst **** you of all-time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/28/24 Full Review Audience Member Its terrible dont watch for your own sanity 0/10 Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/28/24 Full Review Dipanshu V "Home Sweet Home Alone" is a total miss, and a lot of it comes down to Max, the kid at the center of it all. Unlike Kevin from the original, who was clever and fun to root for, Max just feels like an annoying, spoiled brat. Instead of being charming or relatable, he spends most of the movie acting entitled and mean-spirited. It’s like the writers forgot that we’re supposed to actually like the kid we’re watching. The worst part is how the movie tries to make you sympathize with the burglars, who aren’t even real villains this time. They’re just regular people in a tough spot, and Max basically tortures them with over-the-top traps that feel unnecessarily cruel. It’s hard to laugh at someone getting hurt when they’re just trying to solve their own problems and the kid is being such a jerk. The whole story feels off. The pacing is super slow, and by the time anything interesting happens, you’ve probably already checked out. Even when Max sets up his traps, they’re not fun or creative like the original. They’re just mean. And honestly, it’s hard to care about the outcome when you don’t even like the main character.Max doesn’t have any of Kevin’s charm or wit. Instead of being a smart, resourceful kid, he comes across as bratty and unlikeable. And when you combine that with the fact that the "villains" are just regular people, the whole thing feels weird and wrong.Bottom line: this movie doesn’t even come close to the magic of the original. Max is no Kevin, and his antics are more irritating than entertaining. Skip it and stick to the classic. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
